2013 Ford Flex & Lincoln Vehicles To Offer Rear Inflatable Seat Belts
Last week Ford announced and introduced an industry-first to the auto market, one that will increase safety for traveling families (kids and the elderly in particular). The rear inflatable seat belts will be offered with the Lincoln and Ford Flex vehicles beginning next year with their 2013 models. This new safety feature is designed to reduce head and neck injuries to those seated in the rear.
Ford has yet to confirm which of their Lincoln models will be outfitted with the new seat belts, although speculation is the 2013 Lincoln MKT luxury crossover and Lincoln MKS sedan will be the lucky candidates.
Although I am thrilled with this new announcement, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as Ford currently holds the record for having the most top U.S. safety ratings of any automaker ever. They are well aware that a family’s #1 priority is safety when it comes to a vehicle and their dedication to this shows.
The 2011 Ford Explorer was the first Ford vehicle to offer the industry-first rear inflatable seat belts. It is also a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as is the 2011 Ford Flex. In total Ford has 12 vehicles named as 2011 Top Safety Picks.. Read More [via childmode]
