Up to 58,000 people targeted in T&T Supermarket cyberattack
T&T Supermarket Inc. says its website was subject to an illegal cyberattack earlier this month. June 24, 2011.
Richmond-based T&T Supermarket Inc. is warning visitors to its website about a cyberattack that may have compromised the personal information of up to 58,000 people.
The company, which specializes in Asian groceries, says its website was illegally intruded upon on June 6, 7, and 11, as well as June 14 to 17.
Customers placing in-store pick-up orders or applying for jobs at www.tnt-supermarket.com may have been exposed to malware as a result.
T&T says affected visitors could have had their username, password, name, age, gender, phone number, fax information, address and email address compromised.
The company says it does not collect credit card information, driver’s licenses, birth dates or social insurance numbers, however.
The supermarket chain, which is a subsidiary of Loblaws, issued an apology Friday and warned any individuals to be wary of any communication purporting to be from T&T.
“T&T will not be contacting individuals, by any means, including email, to provide further personal information, especially sensitive personal information such as credit card numbers,” the company said.
